Elon Musk exposed his erect penis to a flight attendant employed by SpaceX in 2016 and offered to buy her a horse in exchange for sex, according to allegations in a new report from Insider. The report cites a $250,000 settlement ($347,050) between SpaceX and the unnamed woman, Insider reports, and documentation that Gizmodo has not independently verified.
Musk, the richest person in the world, reportedly showed off his penis while preparing for a massage from the flight attendant as part of her professional duties, according to Insider, who spoke to a source who are friends with the woman. According to the news outlet, the victim has not revealed the story to Insider herself because she has a nondisclosure agreement.
The unnamed woman saw her services cut after the Musk incident and felt she was being “pushed” out of the company.
The out-of-pocket settlement between SpaceX and the unnamed woman was entered into in 2018 in California, which passed a law that same year that made nondisclosure agreements illegal in these types of arrangements. The unidentified woman is believed to be still bound by the terms of her NDA, although any such agreement would not bind the friend who spoke to Insider.
“Before the incident, she considered Mr. Musk to be a person to look up to,” according to a written statement from the woman’s girlfriend, according to Insider. “But after he exposed himself, touched her without permission, and offered to pay her for sex, she was afraid.”
Musk, for his part, argued against the story without denying the existence of a sexual harassment arrangement with an employee. Tesla CEO’s statement to Insider even contained some strange logic.
“If I was prone to sexual harassment, it’s unlikely that this will be the first time in my 30-year career that it has come to light,” Musk told Insider.
This statement seems to imply that the 50-year-old billionaire could not have proposed to an employee for sex simply because no other person has ever come to the media and described an incident like this about him. Musk did not respond to an email from Gizmodo sent to a Tesla email address, even though the company is notoriously hostile to the media and doesn’t even have a PR department anymore.
Musk, who rarely faces actual consequences for his actions, also seemed to lighten the incident early Friday, suggesting on Twitter that the scandal should be called “Elongate,” seemingly a reference to both his first name and what’s happening When a person’s penis is engorged during sexual arousal.
“Finally, we can use Elongate as a scandal name,” Musk tweeted overnight.
“It’s kinda perfect,” the tweet reads, ending with a crying emoji.
Musk also posted some cryptic tweets this week about how he was now a full-fledged Republican and that the Democrats were trying to damage his reputation. He also tweeted that “political attacks on me will escalate dramatically in the coming months,” a tweet sent just hours after Musk was reached for comment by Insider, according to John Cook, the investigative editor at Insider.
The Insider article notes that SpaceX encouraged the woman to take classes to become a professional masseuse, even though the space company didn’t pay for her to develop the new skill. Musk’s companies are known for creating hostile work environments, with several lawsuits allegedly raising systemic problems — from extreme racism to sexual harassment.
It’s unclear how Musk’s latest controversy could disrupt his business dealings, including his bid to buy Twitter. Musk has tried to buy the company through a hostile takeover but now appears to be actively sabotaging the deal. The petulant billionaire’s latest move to blow the agreement involves claiming he will only buy Twitter if the company can prove that less than 5% of its users are bots. This is, of course, bizarre to claim, given that one of Musk’s reasons for buying the company was to rid the platform of bots.
But again, Musk has never had to pay a real price for his actions. If you’re the richest person in the world, 250,000 dollars ($347,050) is a downer. Allegedly, of course.
