The anime series in existence
It’s alive! Not just a new Rick & Morty animated series, but a Rick & Morty anime series has been brought to life by the madmen of Adult Swim, led by Takashi Sano, who also created the hugely popular R&M anime shorts “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider”. and “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil).” But that’s not all, as the channel has also given the green light to a new original series titled Ninja Kamui, which Sunghoo Park is directing from the arguably more popular anime film Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
If you’ve seen the two short films, you should know exactly what we’ll get with Rick & Morty: The Anime Series – a series of adventures so violent and surreal that the original version seems tame. If you haven’t seen them, cub:
As for Ninja Kamui, it sounds like old-school anime at its best, with ninjas, robots, and, most importantly, revenge:

“Ninja Kamui follows Joe Higan, a Nukenin – a former ninja who has escaped his clan and is hiding with his family in rural America from his violent past,” reads a partial summary from Adult Swim. One night, he is ambushed by a squad of assassins from his former organization which demands bloody retribution from Joe and his family for betraying their ancient code. Joe rises from his apparent ‘death’ and reappears as his former self – Ninja Kamui – to avenge his family and friends. Kamui is a 21st-century ninja, a shadowy anachronist who pits his ancient skills against high-tech weapons with brutal finesse. He must face trained assassins and fight cyborgs and rival ninjas to take down the clan that made him.
This isn’t the first time Adult Swim (and its Toonami programming block) has dipped its toes into producing its anime series; alongside the recent Fena: Pirate Princess, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, and Shenmue the Animation show, an adaptation of Uzumaki and the all-new and highly enigmatic Housing Complex C, both of which will premiere this year.
As for R&M: TA and Ninja Kamui, no release dates have been announced. However, we know that the Rick & Morty anime will be ten full episodes, just like a regular season of R&M, and animated by Telecom Animation Film, who created the two short films. Ninja Kamui, meanwhile, is produced by E&H Production and Sola Entertainment, with character designs from Batman: Ninja’s Takeshi Okazaki.
