Who needs a PS5? You can play these 5 exclusive games on a PS4

PlayStation fans can access some of the best video exclusives, from platform stacks like Ratchet and Clank to brilliant one-off games like Ghost of Tsushima. Exclusives are, for the most part, the best reason to buy a PlayStation, especially since the release of The Last of Us in 2013.

This brings us to the question: what are the best games on PlayStation? It’s hard to make up your mind, especially when there is plenty of great fun to play that isn’t exclusive. This article will discuss the best games on PlayStation, PS4, and PS5.

The best PlayStation games

It was still hard to buy a PlayStation in 2022 but s the console dropped. Belo, now and then, the best game on PlayStation consoles for the PS4 and PS5. Note that games perform better on the PS5, but we’ve decided to expand our list to both generations, given the scarcity of consoles.p now and then.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Release date: June 11, 2021

Ratchet and Clank is an inseparable PlayStation icon – since the PlayStation 2, the Ratchet and Clank franchise has been booming, following the titular heroes’ funny and captivating space adventures.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart adds Rivet, another protagonist who is just as cool as the original Ratchet. It’s corny and campy, but you have to lean into it! The best part is you don’t even need to know anything about Ratchet and Clank to enjoy it. The heroes are transported to a universe where their nemesis, Dr. Nefarious, succeeded in his universal domination goals – so, of course, the player’s goal is to stop all that.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is available on PS4 and PS5.

god of war

Release date: April 20, 2018

God of War (2018) is a bleak return to the God of War franchise, which was previously a hack-and-slash featuring gods from the Greek pantheon. It is a more concise and meditated game than the others in the series.

While the battles are still a big part of God of War, the 2018 reboot puts you in the shoes of Kratos, the series’ protagonist, as he journeys through the lands of Norse mythology with his son Atreus. Unlike the rest of the God of War franchise, whose original goal was to kill, kill, and kill, the 2018 game is more about traveling and venturing the world with your son.

God of War (2018) is available on PS4 and PS5.

Marvel’s Spider-Man (and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales)

Release Date: September 7, 2018, & November 12, 2020

Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020) are great games, even if you’re not a Marvel fan. Separated from all other Marvel movies and comics because they exist in their universe, both games offer incredibly fun gameplay where you swing from building to building, fighting bad guys with insane talent.

Both games are great. Also, the stories of both games are incredible. While Marvel’s Spider-Man is more about a slightly older than usual (mid-20s) Peter Parker battling villains he usually already knows and solving a major mystery surrounding a bioweapon, Miles Morales’ spin-off game is more of an original story centered around Miles’ Spider-Man character, as he fights between a hero, a civilian and two warring factions in his new home, Harlem.

Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales are available on PS4 and PS5.

Ghost of Tsushima

Release date: July 17, 2020

This spot on the list was a trade-off between Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part 2 (another incredible PlayStation exclusive). Still, we decided to go for Ghost of Tsushima because of its slightly more accessible tone and the scope of its playing.

Ghost of Tsushima is set on the island of Tsushima in Japan during the 1274 Mongol invasion. Your overall goal is to liberate the island from the Mongols. You play as a samurai named Jin Sakai, who struggles to become two ruthless types of fighters: the noble and fierce samurai, who are known for honorably meeting his enemies in battle, or the stealthy and infamous Ghost, who destroys enemies from the shadow dispels by means seen as dishonorable by other samurai.

Ghost of Tsushima is an incredibly beautiful game with captivating combat, and its vision of feudal Japan alone is worth picking up.

Ghost of Tsushima is available on both PS4 and PS5.

Horizon Forbidden West

Release date: February 18, 2022

Last on our list, but certainly not least and the latest PlayStation exclusive to be released, Horizon Forbidden West is a great game that is not only a pretty impressive sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn (which replaces it on this list) but is also a pretty impressive solo game that runs pretty well on both PS4 and PS5.

Set in a strange medieval world full of cities, factions, and weapons, Horizon Forbidden West puts you in the shoes of Aloy, an adventurer looking for answers. Now and then, you get a glimpse of how this world used to be – it’s polluted with the remains of old cities, labs, and vehicles, and that’s where it starts to feel a little apocalyptic. Still, it’s post-post-apocalyptic (apocalyptic?). Make no mistake, though – Horizon’s art style is unique and worth delving into.

It’s a great game if you’re looking for a mix between magical technology and giant robot dinosaurs (a big part of this game is hunting those dinosaurs and figuring out their weaknesses).

Horizon Forbidden West is available on PS4 and PS5.

Other PlayStation games worth checking out

Our list may only have five games, but these are our picks for the best PlayStation exclusives. If you’ve played all these, it might be worth getting your teeth into the Uncharted franchise, The Last of Us games, Returnal, and Days Gone.

PlayStation’s range of games contains many strong titles; it just takes some time to figure out what interests you.
